The last two weeks have been insanely busy - filled with a ton of off-site work projects and freelance deadlines. I had been feeling really, really overwhelmed and like I was losing my sanity. This week, however, my schedule is finally returning to normal...and I couldn't be more excited for some downtime and time to catch up with friends I haven't seen in a bit.
Aside from relaxation and much-needed quality time with friends, here are ten things on my mind and that I'm loving this week:
1. Nectar Clothing
This past weekend, I went back home to visit my parents in Rancho Cucamonga. On Saturday evening, we walked around downtown Claremont - near the Claremont colleges. One of my favorite spots in this area is a boutique called Nectar. I was so happy to finally snag some cute, trendy pieces as San Diego doesn't really offer any affordable boutiques and I'm not a huge mall shopper (#shoplocal). Admittedly, I'm not the most stylish person, but anything I get from Nectar makes me feel confident, pretty and happy. Nectar also has locations in Redlands, Orange, Laguna Niguel, Irvine and Temecula.
2. Big Little Lies
I'm a bit behind on this bingeable show, but I finally plowed through half the season this weekend without even moving! Based on Liane Moriarty's book, this HBO show is a dark comedy-drama that stars Shailene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. The story line is fascinating and leaves you constantly guessing, the show is beautifully shot and the acting is on point. Bonus: the show features Alexandar Skarsgaard (of True Blood fame)...who is pretty easy on the eyes, despite being a horrible character. Go watch and tell me your thoughts!
After getting a dental operation this last Friday, I could hardly open my mouth, so I knew lunch had to be soup or a smoothie. I ended up at Tajima (which is just half a mile from my office...dangerous) and stuffed my face with a huge bowl of ramen. I've had ramen around San Diego, and this definitely takes the cake. My bowl included fried pork belly and tons of garlic...so tasty.
Throughout college, I only wore Nikes to run in. They were so comfy and supportive...but when I graduated and went to pick up a new pair, I hated the new versions. They weren't comfortable and fit completely different. So, I returned to wearing Brooks. Last week, though, I finally decided to try Nikes on again and give them another go. Props to Nike who definitely listened to customer feedback - the kicks (I got Zoom Structure 20) are finally back to feeling comfy and supportive. I can't wait to put some miles on these babies.
As I mentioned before, I was at home this weekend. There isn't a ton to do in Rancho, so my family and I ended up playing a slew of card games and board games, including Scattergories. I always forget how much fun I have with simple games. Bonus: Scattergories challenges you to think outside of the box. Who's ready for a game night?
6. Boston Marathon
Yesterday was the Boston Marathon, one of my favorite events of the year. While I've never run it (and my attempt to qualify was impeded by my first hip fracture), I love seeing the camaraderie and the ultimate joy and accomplishment of the runners who get to run the race. It's what running is really all about. It makes me happy - and I love seeing my friends complete it. My goal is to qualify for the 2019 race. Putting it out into the universe...eek.
7. Adult coloring books
After such a stressful week, last Friday I came home and took a two hour nap with my kitten Walt and then binged on Scandal and colored in an adult coloring book. Don't knock it until you try it - it's so relaxing because it makes you focus just on one thing.
8. TriggerPoint Foam Rollers
Returning to running after being on crutches for so long has definitely been taking its toll on my muscles. I've been trying to consciously make the effort to roll out a few days a week and give my muscles some (tough) love. My favorite roller? TriggerPoint. It hurts so good.
I rely heavily on caffeine. It's a problem...for my bank account. So, thank goodness for 7-11's coffee. Don't knock it till you try it. It's super cheap and pretty good coffee. Plus, download the app and every 7th coffee is free.
10. Siggis Yogurt
I love yogurt, but I hate how much sugar is packed into it nowadays! Enter Siggis. This Icelandic-style yogurt is thick, creamy and barely has any sugar. It's simple and super filling...and the perfect afternoon pick-me-up snack at work. Yum.
What are you feeling this week?
