This past weekend was so fun and filled to the brim with dates, friend time and adventures...and honestly, I am having a hard time getting back to the grind. I even slept through my alarm yesterday, which hasn't happened in almost a year! This morning wasn't much better. Yikes. I think I need a new alarm song - any suggestions?
In a strong effort to fight my "meh" feelings on going back to work after a great weekend, I filled my calendar with tons of plans this week to continue the good vibes from this past weekend - dinners with friends, yoga classes, networking events and a staycation type trip to the OC this coming weekend.
Aside from looking forward to all my plans and fighting off the workweek wear and tear, here's what else is on my mind:
1. Run Selfie Repeat
I honestly could gush about Run Selfie Repeat and its founder - Kelly Roberts - for an entire blog...or two. Oops. Anyways, Run Selfie Repeat is a running blog that is honest about the good and the bad parts of running. Over the course of the past year, she's been training to Boston Qualify. This past weekend, she didn't qualify at the London Marathon due to injury...and her post about disappointment and the support system people gain through running...it's hands down the most relatable thing I've read in years. She's definitely inspired me to be confident in my sports bra (#sportsbrasquad) and in my own journey. Bonus: she launched a podcast of the same name a few months ago. Listening to these doses of inspiration is the perfect way to start my commute.
2. Arm the Animals
My friend Jenn introduced me to this awesome online apparel shop whose proceeds go towards animal welfare organizations around the country and world. All of the products from Arm the Animals are all themed on critters, activism and humor. I snagged the cutest baseball cap that reads "Cat Mom AF." It's purrfect.
3. Morning Walks
As I mentioned, I'm trying to cut back on running right now, particularly since I decided not to race at all this year. However, I am still waking up at the crack of dawn, ready to get on with my day! Rather than laying around and going back to sleep, I've been enjoying sunrise walks around the bay or on the beach sand with a piping cup of coffee in hand. There's something so, so peaceful about starting my day like this.
After entering countless Instagram contests, I finally won one! I received a free special edition Birchbox (hand-picked by Reese Witherspoon!). Birchbox is a monthly subscription that delivers 5 personalized beauty products to you each month for just $10! I love the small sizes, so I can decide what works for me and what doesn't before investing. Plus, it's how I've discovered some brands and products I would never have tried. This box was full of products from Benefit, Clarins and Davines! Score!
Though I haven't been running much, I have been doing a ton of yoga and just picked up Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide. While BBG may just seem like an Instagram fad, these workouts are killer. Each week, there's three, 28-minute circuits. The circuits have totally kicked my butt, but I'm already seeing major results which is insane.
6. Noble Experiment
This weekend, Nick and I took our date night to Noble Experiment, a hidden speakeasy-themed bar in trendy East Village. The bar's interior is lined with a wall of skulls and walls of paintings. We opted for "Dealer's Choice" drinks - you tell the bartender what type of spirits you prefer and answer some taste questions and they create a drink for you. I had two gin drinks which were fantastic. I wish I was that creative! The entire experience was so fun, and it was a nice change of pace to get dressed up for a date night (where we typically go to a brewery or the beach).
7. Cabrillo National Monument
This weekend, Cabrillo was offering free admission, so Nick and I headed over there Sunday to walk around. I'd only ever been to the area for America's Finest City half-marathon, but it was way too dark to see anything! Anyways, the day was gorgeous, the views were amazing and the flowers...well, wow! We didn't get to make it to the tidepools, so I guess we will have to go back!
8. Rustic Root
After a few drinks at Noble Experiment and Half Door Brewing afterwards, I woke up Sunday morning not feeling too hot. But, I pulled myself out of bed to go to brunch at Rustic Root in the Gaslamp Quarter. I am so glad I did! I sat on the rooftop and people watched, while enjoying a divine mimosa, french toast and a smoked salmon benedict. Holy cow - yum. I was stuffed by the decadent meal, but can't wait to go back to try a few other items I was eyeing on the menu.
9. Nights in with Friends
Last week, I had two friends come over to snack, chat and take a soak in the jacuzzi. We spent hours laying around talking, and it was nice to just be. I think quiet nights in with good conversation are my favorite.
10. Days without my Phone
For about 90% of this weekend, I had my phone on airplane mode. While I still snapped a few pictures (#doitfortheblog), it was liberating not checking social media, not needing to text someone back and just being totally present in the moment. I need to do this way more often!
What are you into this week? I'd love to hear!
