July in Review

July in Review

Every month, I am always in awe of how fast time is flying. This month is really no exception. July flew by particularly quick with a really busy work schedule and quite a bit of travel.

If you are a consistent reader of my blogger, you know by now that I planned to set mini-goals and mantras for each month that will all build up to my larger 2017 goals. This June, my goals consisted of: reading more (check!), expressing my gratitude to the people who mean a lot to me more frequently (you tell me...), crossing off items of my summer bucket list (a few!), cutting down my meat consumption (check!) and finishing up a huge work project I started when I arrived at my new job (check!). This month felt successful in terms of my goals.

Beyond these goals, my mantra the last month was "be present now." I set this mantra so I could pause my tendency to constantly be looking at both the past and present at the sake of the moment. I wish I could say I had been more successful integrating this thought into this space this month. Meanwhile, I only looked forward. I was ready for the month of work craziness to end, I was looking forward to upcoming personal travel and I was always looking at what was going to happen next. However, I did notice an impact in an unexpected area of my life: I got off my phone more. I started leaving my phone in the car. I stopped checking Instagram as much. This mantra is one that I will be carrying with me and working with the rest of the year.

Here are some other highlights from this June:

I camped - and I glamped.
Vastly different experiences - and I liked both equally as much! Almost as much as bugs loved to bite/sting me on both adventures. But really, camping made me really thankful for water, for Nick taking care of me and for the ability to hike finally. Nothing makes me smile more than Nick and I feasting on summer sausage and crackers (after I forgot dinner), reading and watching the sunset and going to bed at 8 PM (only to realize our tent was perched on a hill...). Meanwhile, glamping was the perfect time to see the Milky Way, to bond with a friend I don't get to see as much as I want and to appreciate the beauty that is so close to San Diego (I say that as if San Diego isn't beautiful itself...).

I was named a siggis ambassador!
More to come on this soon, but I am thrilled!

I went to Las Vegas for the first time.
It was tiring - and I didn't even go out! I did get to see the Bellagio water show. That's really all I wanted. Maybe one day I will go for real.

Mostly though, I enjoyed the small moments: the moment where I realized I had friends I could call up and drive over with last-minute notice to wine and cry, the moments I spent cackling in my car to episodes of My Favorite Murder in traffic, the moments bottling wine with Nick's family, the moments spent crying and laughing with my best friends at a brewery anniversary, the moments where Walt curled up in my lap while I read. Those are the real highlights from this past month.

This month, I will be focusing on: "Stay wild."
