Happy New Year! Well...the first Tuesday Ten of 2018. After a hectic return to work last Tuesday, I had to skip a week...and you know what? Life happens, and I'm learning to acknowledge that.
So, without further ado...here's what I'm feeling this week:
If you read my last blog post, you know that I am one week into the Whole30 program. While I have the Whole30 book and cookbook, I am using Pinterest as an extra resource to diversify my recipes each week. It's a great place to find some tasty, out-of-the-box ideas.
2. Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve
One of meals this year is to complete the 52 Hike Challenge - essentially one hike per week. I kicked off my 2018 challenge with a 5 mile romp around Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve with my friend Stefanie. The trail was between Ramona and Julian and was dotted with oak trees and lots of cows. It was grassy, peaceful and sunny. Perfect way to kick off the challenge.
3. Thrive Market
Like I mentioned...I'm dialed into Whole30 right now. One of the first sites I went to was Thrive Market. This site offers organic, non-GMO products at a discounted rate...and even has a whole section for Whole30 compliant products. Score! I settled for some Nutpods Creamers and EPIC jerky bites - neither of which I could find in a store.
4. James Coffee Co.
James Coffee Co. is one of my favorite local San Diego roasters - great coffee and a great vibe. The hipster shop is located in Little Italy and offers coffee among a few local boutiques all in one space. My favorite drink? The Honey Cinnamon. This week, though, I opted for cold brew. Yum.
5. North Etiwanda Preserve
I doubled up this week on the 52 Hike Challenge and added on a quick 4 mile out-and-back at North Etiwanda Preserve in Rancho Cucamonga while I was home visiting family. While I hate how overrun with graffiti this trail has become, it's still a nice getaway with a scenic mountain backdrop. The trail follows up the mountain leading to a small creek and waterfall...and the hills are no joke. My one word of caution: go early...there's absolutely zero shade, and it gets hot.
6. First Comes Love
Apparently, I'm on an Emily Giffin roll right now. I'm finishing up her latest book First Comes Love...and I can't put it down. The story is all about grief, love, marriage and children. Like all of her books: chick lit with depth.
7. Atlanta Monster
Shocking...a podcast on my Tuesday Ten! Ha. Last week, my friend Lauren introduced to the new true crime podcast: Atlanta Monster. From the producers of Up & Vanished (yes, Payne Lindsay is hosting it - yay!), the podcast is investigating the Atlanta Child Murders of the 1980s. While there's currently only one episode out, I know I'm already hooked.
8. Klatch Coffee Co.
As I mentioned, I went back home briefly this weekend to catch the LA Kings vs. Nashville Predators NHL game at Staples Center with my uncle. Before I headed back to San Diego, I stopped at Klatch Coffee with two of my high school friends that happened to also be in town. Klatch has some of my favorite coffee to date and the space in Rancho Cucamonga is so warm and friendly. It used to be my job-hunt hideaway when I lived at home after college. My favorite drink? Any pour-over.
9. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment - Rose
After hiking on Friday, my lips were chapped. I immediately pulled out my Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment (color: Rose). This lip treatment has SPG, moisturizes and soothes like no other. Did I mention the pretty and sheer color? Yep. It's the perfect way to treat your lips to some loving and look cute all at once. I'm addicted.
10. Ethika Underwear
This Christmas, I was gifted underwear from my family friends. Originally, I was like huh, okay...until I put the Ethika brand underwear on. COMFIEST PAIRS EVER. The seamless thong feels like butter and doesn't show under anything. I am definitely not trying to get racy, but we all underwear, don't we? I can't believe I hadn't heard of this OC-based brand before.
