Ever have those days where you wake up feeling alive? You are awake, energized and alert. Everything is exciting and enthralling.
Well, that's today for me.
I woke up at 4 A.M., practically dancing to my alarm, with no problem. I actually felt really rested for the first time in awhile. I headed to Renegade Fitcamp for a 5 A.M. workout and then came home to leisurely eat breakfast (simple omelette over kale and sprouted bread - yum!), clean and write. I headed to work early, took a lunch break and hit up my friend Jamie's yoga class, and will be heading back to the yoga studio for yoga teacher training this evening. In between, I've worked on a few projects I am super excited to be tasked with, I nommed on a yummy Greek yogurt bowl full of chia seeds, kiwi and blueberries and a zoodle stir fry, and I didn't get caught up scrolling my social feeds.
The day is only about halfway through for me (with YTT, my Tuesdays are super long!), but I am still alert and full of energy. This day was full of everything I love, I feel so nourished and satisfied, and I hope the rest of the week follows suit. But, for now, I'll cherish this feeling...because it's been awhile.
Besides feeling super vibrant and energetic today, here's what else I'm feeling this week:
The yoga studio I'm taking teacher training at is next to Dark Horse, one of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego. Dangerous! Not only am I a sucker for the coffee, I'm also a sucker for their fridge full of Brekki - a line of yummy overnight oats that's low in sugar and dairy-free! My favorite flavor? Coconut Cardadmom. It's the perfect thing to munch on during YTT - it keeps me fueled for hours while also feeling light.
2. Tacos Libertad
I'm a sucker for tacos...and San Diego is obviously the place to be. Over the last few weeks, my new favorite spot has been Tacos Libertad, a small restaurant tucked along Hillcrest's University Avenue. Not only are the tacos delicious and reasonably priced, all proceeds go towards local charities. Win-win! Did I mention they have margaritas on tap? ON TAP. Yes, you read that right. My recommendation? The El Tacubano and a spicy margarita!
3. Baseball Season
Baseball season is back, and I couldn't be more excited! I went to my first game on Opening Weekend with my parents and Justin. We scored killer seats, nommed on craft beer, tri tip nachos and hot dogs...and saw the Padres lose. It was such a good game, and it reminded me so much of why I love the sport. My team? Angels.
4. Coffee & Tea Collective
As I mentioned in my last post, I started a new job in downtown San Diego. One thing I'm majorly excited for? The proximity to so many good coffee shops! Last week, I hit up East Village's Coffee & Tea Collective...and loved it so much, I was back again this week. It's a small, minimal spot with coffee that's on point. I've tried both a latte and a matcha latte...and can't decide which I loved more!
A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to a pre-opening Soulcycle ride in La Jolla. I have been waiting years for Soulcycle to open in San Diego after getting hooked on it when I lived and worked closer to Los Angeles and Orange County. It didn't disappoint. Between a killer playlist, pristine amenities and a tough workout, I was beyond happy. While I still love Sparkcycle, I'll definitely be making a point to hit up Soulcycle anytime I'm in the UTC area!
6. Happsters Squad
Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to join a group called the Happsters Squad. Basically, it's a group of 20 women in a city looking to meet like minded-gals. The group meets once a month and activities are based on the 4 G's: gathering, growth, giving and gratitude. This month, we hung out to make floral sage smudge sticks and talk about gratitude lists. If this isn't straight up my alley, I don't know what is. I'm loving getting to know and meet people I otherwise wouldn't and can't wait for more events!
7. Gal Meets Glam
I am certainly no fashionista (i.e. see photo above), but I am obsessed with some style blogs. Latest obsession? Gal Meets Glam. This Charleston-based style blogger goes beyond just style and dips her toes into everything lifestyle. I love her writing and the attention to detail. Major goals.
8. Herb & Eatery
On my first day at work, my manager took me out to eat at Herb & Eatery...and it's instantly going to be a favorite of mine. Herb & Eatery is a little neighborhood cafe in the heart of Little Italy, and it's a concept of Herb & Wood's. The bustling vibe is contagious...and the food is even better. I opted for a tuna melt (trust me - this was a spinoff on the classic!) and root fries. I was stuffed, but couldn't stop! So good.
9. Trader Joe's Bluberry & Acai Facial Scrub
I've been looking for a cheap facial scrub for some time now and recently sampled Trader Joe's Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub. While I wasn't sure what to expect, I already love it. It's a gentler exfoliater that smells divine. The collodial oatmeal, shea butter and seed oil help pamper, as well. Who knew I'd find such a gem at TJ's?!
10. This Is Love
Yet again, wouldn't be a Tuesday Ten without a podcast recommendation. In my 2017 podcast recap, I mentioned Criminal, a true crime podcast. The producers of this podcast recently debuted a new show: This is Love. The show tells beautifully written stories about love and all of its various forms - from a blind couple, to a family's deep love across various continents, to a woman's bond with a baby whale she found while swimming. It's so touching and thought-provoking. I can't wait for the next season.
