It’s all fun and games until you get mild food poisoning, right?
This weekend, I went to a soft opening of a new restaurant in San Diego…and came home sick. Luckily, it was the quickest bout of food poisoning I have ever had…and in the meantime, Justin took the best care of me. Thanks for bringing me medicine, staying up with me, drawing me a bath, massaging my achy back and lighting all the fun candles and listening to too many TMI deets.
I started to feel on the up-and-up midday yesterday when a friend asked me to exercise with her. Against my initial instincts, I said no. I’m always up for a workout and typically worry when I get sick that I’ll fall out of shape. It’s often irrational, but I can’t be the only one, right?! However, I’m learning to listen to my body and think longer term than the initial endorphins and instead at my health as a whole. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but I’m on my way. And with that, I’m kicking it today aside from a gentle yoga flow.
So aside from resting for just another day, here’s what else I’m feeling:
1. Old Navy
I honestly don’t think I had stepped foot into an Old Navy in about eight years, but this weekend, I was tempted to pop in as I procrastinated with grocery shopping. There was a pretty sweet sale…and I came out with a cute dress, jeans and block heels for just $100. Needless to say, I’m not overlooking this store anytime I’m looking for clothes now! Cute, simple and affordable. I’m here for it.
2. Rachl Mansfield
I’ve been into sampling new recipes lately, and one of my favorite digital spots to scope out some yummy-ness has become Rachl Mansfield. This food blogger’s recipes are all drool-worthy…and all made with clean ingredients. They’re simple to make - but without sacrificing flavor. My personal favorite? Her sweet potato fries!
Following my regular 8:30 AM Saturday yoga class at Mosaic, I popped across the street to Counterpoint for brunch with two yogi friends. Counterpoint is one of my favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Good vibes, good food and a good cocktail menu/draft list. This weekend, I opted for a few mimosas and the Chicken and Waffles (spicy hollandaise AND honey butter - yes, please!!). My favorite menu item, though? The Brussel Sprouts with Spicy Kimchi. 10/10 recommend.
As I mentioned in last week’s Tuesday Ten, I’ve been participating in monthly craft nights. This month, we created our dreamcatchers at FruitCraft, a unique employee-owned fermentery and distillery in Hillcrest. Think: wine…but with different fruits! I opted for a semi-sweet Pomegranate Cherry. I was worried that it might be too overly sweet, but it was the perfectly tart and crisp. I can’t wait to go back and try more flavors (pumpkin spice may have to be next…).
5. Sunset Hikes
I’m typically a sunrise hike kind of girl, but after having done two sunset hikes back to back, I have to admit: I’m a fan! Last Friday, I headed up Iron Mountain with Justin and our friend Jeff after work on Friday. We saw the sunset over all of San Diego from the peak, and it was absolutely breathtaking. We followed the moonlight on our way down…and I successfully did not trip! It was my kind of Friday happy hour.
6. Hail Merry
If you know me at all, you know I have one wicked sweet tooth. So, I was overjoyed when my friend Lauryn introduced me to Hail Merry cups and bites recently. These treats are made with totally clean ingredients…and feel utterly indulgent. My favorite? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites (made with shredded coconut, coconut oil, chocolate chips, almond flour and maple syrup!).
7. Breaking Bad
Justin and I decided to rewatch Breaking Bad this weekend (and we may already be 5 episodes in). While it’s one of my favorite shows (so much so that I named my cat after the main character!), I haven’t seen it in awhile. It feels like I’m reliving all the twists and turns and excitement all over again.
8. Love Tatum
I received a Love Tatum ring for a gift a few months ago, and it’s quickly become one of my style staples. I’m always wearing it! This beautiful Howlite gold ring is simple and beautiful - just a triangular gem. Moreover, Howlite is perfect for stress relief. It was a very fitting gift - ha!
I’m always trying out new hair products, and my latest obsession? Olaplex. This multi-step hair treatment has made my hair noticeably softer and lighter. It makes me feel like I went to the salon when I’m really just stepping out of my shower! Plus, it’s helpful for preserving my hair color and smells wonderful!
10. Fall Weather
The last two days in San Diego have actually been reminiscent of fall. While I will always prefer hot summer weather, the shift in temperature has been a nice change. Last night, we celebrated by eating spaghetti squash and lighting fall candles. Now, bring on pumpkin everything!
